On Friday evening, JP and Danielle joined Nancy and me at the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor. I had the great pleasure of consuming no less than five types of animals that night.
I ordered the mixed grill, which comprises a lamb chop, half quail, bison sausage, and cut of (bovine) beef. We suggested to the waitress that the entree instead be called The Barnyard, but she didn't think that had as much positive marketing connotation. Anyway, a bite of the duck Nancy ordered totals five, count them, five animal-based proteins. I felt quite fat and happy, not to mention proud, in a disturbing way.
Then just last night, I concocted what I call, for now, Josh's Cholesterol Express. Start by frying four strips of bacon. When the bacon's done to your liking, remove it from the pan and set it aside. Then, take slices of good smoked turkey and ham, and heat them for 30 seconds or so in the pan with the bacon drippings. Remove and set those aside as well.
Now, begin assembling your sandwich. Spread one slice of whole wheat bread generously with Inglehoffer stone ground mustard. Top with provalone cheese, turkey, ham, bacon slices, and another slice of provalone cheese. Cap with a second slice of wheat bread. Place the tower of goodness in the pan with bacon drippings until brown on one side. Flip, brown, and remove when cheese is melted.
Enjoy with low-dose aspirin, near emergecy assistance.
